Over the past few months, as part of my final semester of my bachelor’s degree in Law, I completed an internship at Paulussen Advocaten in Maastricht.
I chose to do my internship at Paulussen Advocaten because of the firm’s broad legal expertise. I wanted to get a taste of several areas of law before making my final choice for a master’s program. I was given every opportunity to do so. Through my work during the internship, I was able to build a much broader and deeper legal knowledge.
Almost immediately at the start of my internship, I was involved in all aspects of the firm’s work. For instance, I observed a bankruptcy proceeding, attended several court hearings, participated in client meetings, and was present at various discussions.
For several interesting cases, I conducted research and provided legal advice. What I particularly appreciated was the approachability of my colleagues at the office. There is a very warm and collegial atmosphere.
I regularly engaged in active discussions with various clients to discuss details and exchange ideas regarding the relevant cases. This theoretical approach combined with a practical mindset has helped me gain much deeper legal insights.
Through this level of involvement, I have learned how to interact with clients, how to communicate effectively in a legal context, and what is expected of lawyers.
